What
is the average age of the members?
Our members mostly range from 35-60 with the average age
about 47.
What
is the basic make-up of your group of people?
Most of our members are professionals. We are very
impressed with our members, most of whom are college
educated. Predominately non-smokers and generally
healthy and active. Our odds, male to female, are
dead on - perfectly even at this time, and rarely
changes. We do not track marital history in ASA. The
racial mix is fairly typical of people in the moderate
income level. We do welcome all races and nationalities
and we probably have every race represented.
Do
a lot of people meet through your club?
Although it is not our "goal" to make ASA a vehicle
for nothing else but finding your mate, it happens
quite a bit. We have never tracked our "success stories"
but we estimate that we are responsible for at least
8 marriages each year. Of course, many, many couples
have also formed through our club, and we're happy
for all if it. If we could recommend a better way
to meet your lifelong partner - a person whom you
can stay active and play with the rest of your life,
we would send you there. It's never easy finding the
love of your life, but having fun while you're waiting
is definitely a great idea. See, we've taken all the
pressure off!

What does it cost to join?
The first year is $325 but you may also join by the
month at $30. There are no other hidden
costs.
How
much are renewals?
Renewal rates drop to $275 the second year (if
you've joined with the annual program). One strong
part of our club is our leadership program. We offer
credits, equal to a percentage, off the renewal fee
for people who get involved and lead events. We coach
the members how to set up for and lead an event. We
will also email the members with potential ideas that
we are working on for the next newsletter, events
that are up for grabs for leading that we have done
the research for. Because of this, and the members
involvement, we have built a win-win situation and ASA has become "our club" rather than a club that
is run only by paid social directors. Many people
do not pay anything for their renewal.
Do
you run any specials on your membership?
Not generally. At times we've had some incentives
for the members to refer their friends. We feel
that our membership fee is very reasonable and we
would not want someone to feel slighted that they
paid more than someone else who joined after they
did.
Do
all the events cost extra money?
No. Most of our events are absolutely free. However
for some of our events we use outside vendors and
professionals. Things like theatre events, kayaking,
rock climbing, golf lessons, excursions, or one of
our large, catered parties do cost more money, but
they are all discounted, some as much as half price.
We negotiate with the facilities we use for group
rates, whenever possible, and pass the savings on
to the members. Membership in ASA should easily pay
for itself with all the savings. In any newsletter
you can add up hundreds of dollars of savings.

How
often is the newsletter sent?
Ours is a quarterly newsletter. It is mailed out by
the 21st of the proceeding month. We also post a copy
of the newsletter on a web site that members are allowed
to download so you can have a copy on your computer!
We also keep the members up to date with our weekly
email updates which cover what is on the agenda that
week as well as any changes to the schedule and how
the trips are coming. It's perfect for busy people
who may not remember about certain events that might
require an RSVP or a trip that might be closing out.
